Le moulin des Pierres Royat

We had visited this restaurant with friends a few years ago and had fond memories of it. The setting is still magnificent, surrounded by nature, which is what made us want to return during our trip to the Auvergne region. Unfortunately, this new experience was a huge disappointment. From the moment we arrived, the manager's welcome was particularly unpleasant. As we sat down at a table on a lower level, we were addressed curtly: "The bar opens at 3 p.m.!" A welcome that immediately set the tone. We then sat on a practically deserted terrace. There again, the welcome was dismissive: "Yes, tell me." Without a smile, without a word of welcome. The menu is extremely limited, with only three dishes offered and no real options for children. The seats are particularly uncomfortable and don't encourage lingering over a meal. So we ate quickly before leaving. What a waste… Such a beautiful place deserves a more welcoming staff, more refined décor, and genuine attention to the customer experience. With such a setting, this establishment could be a truly wonderful place. Currently, only the park leaves a positive impression.

This place is never open. On Sundays, if you want a coffee by the river, it's impossible before 10 or even 11 am. A drink at lunchtime? Not possible either; they can't run a service and have the bar open at the same time. The bar opens at 3 pm… and as for the food: basic street food. It's a shame that with such a location, you don't want to work there.

Misunderstanding?! 11:30 am, a quick drink before lunch. "The bar only opens at 3 pm and the restaurant at noon" (sic). 4 people behind the bar, including the owner. We left with our tails between our legs, feeling like we were bothering them. Honestly, I don't understand how this place works.

A little slice of idyllic paradise by the water was spoiled by the sarcastic remarks of a manager under pressure, undoubtedly stressed by the success of her establishment or the heatwave... a real shame, it's the only thing that needs improvement and it made us leave. This is the second time we've left because of her bad mood. Disappointed again.

Incredible place, far from the heat of the city center. Exceptional cuisine from a talented young chef. The owner is friendly and very pleasant. Special mention to Manon, the waitress, who served us perfectly! A must-try, again and again!

Ideally located in the middle of the park with numerous terraces overlooking the small local river, it's a peaceful and friendly spot. The dishes are simple yet tasty and generous, which is essential, and served quickly despite the Saturday night crowds. Reservations aren't possible, so don't arrive too late...

So, even though we're in Royat, when exactly do we close the kitchens at 9 pm and stop serving drinks at 10 pm? Very, very, very customer-friendly. Thank you.
